Poem 4

poet's name/alias:
pbr url: http://www.poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=TacitHeart

Strengths: good detail and description. great title because it describes the poem "angel". The poem talks about an angel helping another person, that is not named, and that is in need of help and needs love. The angel also wants to help and wants to give love to this other person, and she asks this other person if she can be his/her angel.

Weaknesses:

Rating (1-10): 9

Overall Analysis: great poem !

Poem 3

poet's name/alias:
pbr url: http://www.poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=Inner_Beauty

Strengths: nice description and detail in the poem, "cover to cover". The title parallels with the poem, and I like that. She talks in the 3rd person in the poem. The poem is about a book, but she talks as if it is a lover. Good beginning to end. Nice topic.

Weaknesses: good description and detail, but should have had more.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis: More detail and description but over all it is a great poem.

poem 2

poet's name/alias:
pbr url: http://www.poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=amanda_joy1970

Strengths: good description and words in the poem, " Making Room". Good title and topic.

Weaknesses: more content. Nice title, but it doesnt describe anything from the poem.

Rating (1-10): 6

Overall Analysis: needs more content and work

poem 1

poet's name/alias:
pbr url: http://www.poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=klumpkin

Strengths: " I see by the light" is a perfect name for the poem because the poem reflects on that. the poem is short and sweet. The poem keeps the reader wondering what the "certain things" are.

Weaknesses: cursing in the poem.

Rating (1-10): 7

Overall Analysis: the poem needs more work, but like the topic.

Guidelines

Feel free to fill that out or use your own unique brand of blogging to critique poets listed on http://poetryblogrankings.com/. Visit the site and choose poets any way you see fit. You'll have to sign up for a free account if you've yet to do so.

Another tool at your disposal is the
Poet Search Engine, which includes a Random Poet generator, a poet finder, and way to select poets based on a particular genre, form, or style. Review poets, poems, and/or their poetry blog based on whatever aspects you find necessary. However you choose to critique poets, be sure to do so constructively, whether giving a positive or negative review. The goal should be to inspire poets to write more. So instead of just saying "Great!" or "Awful", say specifics to why you thought it was great or awful, and perhaps steps they could take to further improve their work or appeal to more people besides yourself, realizing all the while that it is JUST YOUR OPINION.

Title your posts however you wish, keeping in mind that certain titles will get read/understood more than others. The Poet Profile url can be found on that poet's PoetryBlogRankings.com profile. "Label" your post in the space provided at the bottom of the blog (entitled "Labels for this post") with the poet's name, as it's listed on PoetryBlogRankings.com. If you mess up, just reedit your post. I'll randomly sift through these posts and edit the ones that need major reworking.
Feel free to review poets, poems, sites, poetry contest entries, or whatever you think might interest readers. You can review as many poets as you'd like, as often as you'd like. Please use these guidelines before posting until you're sure you understand everything I've mentioned above. Read the reviews that others have posted to get some ideas of your own as well.

Strengths:

Her lustful, erotic poetry never gets old. More than anything, however, her character shines through her every piece. A great poet for any reader who truly wants to get to know a poet can follow. She’s one of the best at twisting words around the page (quite literally), and she does so in such a way that it makes you want to read on.

Weaknesses:

She does not attempt to stray from her comfort zone too often, but this is probably one of the most cherished aspects of her poetry in the eyes of her most passionate readers. Her aforementioned twisted words are a bit overwhelming, at times, when it seems as if you’re meant to read two lines simultaneously… but such confusion is life as well, and perhaps that’s where she’s getting at.

Rating (1-10): 9

Overall Analysis:

A solid 9 for a solid poet who should be one of the best for years to come.

Strengths:

Another poet who has so much to say (meant in a very good way). Every piece touches on so many ideas in the most subtle of fashions, all while entertaining the reader with interesting word and phrase choices. A smart writer, to say the least.

Weaknesses:

Quite succinct at times, when you want her to keep going, expanding the thought’s track that she’s placed you on. This might leave most readers feeling either abandoned or ignored, but might allow some to utilize their own imaginations and not merely be entertained.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

A great writer who puts forth a very valiant effort time and again. Although she’s experimented with a couple of different forms, her potential to be able to do more with that is obvious. She’s poetically asked us to “rearrange [her] sorry life in alphabetical order”… and to that I’d have to remove the “sorry” and place her work amongst the A-list.

Strengths:

Style, ENERGY, creativity, and Style (yes, it’s worth mentioning twice).

Weaknesses:

A ton of stuff going on in her blog area make it hard to find poetry, but there’s also a ton of stuff going on in her poetry that not only makes the clutter worth it, but it defines the meaning and reasoning behind the intensity of the page. Her words are sometimes too simple, but the underlying thought process is what shines through once you get her style.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

You kinda have to take the time to keep reading through her work to realize her poetic intensity and drive, but once you’ve done so… you’ll get what I mean when I say her poetry is penetrating in such a good way.

pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=Inner_Beauty

Strengths:

“[She] pulls [her] faith ‘round [her], limp and damp, shivering in the penetrating sadness”…. Yes, she does do that, and she does much more as well. She uses every multimedia device known to man (or woman) to get her poetic point across. She might actually have a literal bag of adjectives next to her while she weaves her poetry.

Weaknesses:

She pulls from that adjective bag like it’s a bag of highly descriptive Doritos so often that it kinda takes away from a few of her poems. They still flow well enough, but it seems as is the poetry becomes dictated by which words she wanted to use. This is never more apparent in her poem entitled “The Octopus Garden” wherein she tosses aside her need to blow the reader away with verse-lengthening adjectives. The result is a poem that is just phenomenal.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

She is definitely dazzling with her HTML, photobucket, and YouTube usage, and her poetry definitely benefits from that as well as the poet’s rapport with the readers throughout the comment section. I gave her an extremely high 8 because you can tell she just cares about her every word. Her poetry will be around a very long time because of that.

Strengths:

Writes in a way that makes you think. You can tell she writes with many philosophies running through her mind and pen, and she’s throws in some nice and colorful verbiage to top it all off.

Weaknesses:

A bit of a trek to track down all her poetry. I had to visit external links, which is a real pain when having to leave a site like MySpace and its high firewalls of “protection”. She writes kinda choppy, but I think that’s meant to be the desired effect, as it never seems to stop… and you might even find yourself starting to enjoy it.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

She might be a bit repetitive in style, but she always seems to have new ideas and philosophies that keep her poetry going. A low 8, in my humble opinion, as it seems like the sky’s the limit for this writer who- right now- seems to be battling with the forces of “sounding wise”, “writing eloquently”, and “entertaining an audience”. Once she figures out a balance or chooses one entirely, she’s be well on her way.

pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=amanda_joy1970

Strengths:

Subtle meanings that are highly descriptive, unique, and relatable to most. Her style is non-confrontational and highly welcoming to a vast array of people. She’s willing and able to experiment with form and subject matter, and can contend with most in regards to her wit, personality, and charm--- which all ring out through her countless amounts of poems.

Weaknesses:

It’s obvious she has something on her mind, but with every poem she seems to just touch on what that is. Perhaps that’s the alluring part of her poetry, but it might annoy some as well… as her poetry might seem to just stray from here to there without going anywhere. She might just be the abstract painter with a ton of stuff going on behind the scenes or she might just lie in some teasing obscurity with no secret at all--- a dilemma that can be exciting to read through or dreadfully dull to others.

Rating (1-10): 9

Overall Analysis:

Someone who can obviously control the crowd with her words, Amanda Joy’s poetry is soothing and relentlessly sentimental (which can be taken as either a good or bad thing). I battled between giving her a high 8 and a low 9, but settled with the 9 because of her mass appeal and willingness to share her heart’s work with others.

Strengths:

A terrific understanding of the English language, of the flow of poetry, and of how exactly to get her voice across to the reader in a non-intimidating fashion. The layout of her page is fairly basic and easy to follow, as is her poetic style of uniquely descriptive scenes and thoughts.

Weaknesses:

The breadth of her work might make some turn away from the daunting task of reading through it all, but it will definitely capture the rest. Her work is consistently vague, which might unsettle those looking for a bit of easily comprehensible reality.

Rating (1-10): 10

Overall Analysis:

Just a flat out good poet.

pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=fotios

Strengths:

Great use of vocabulary, poetic flow, and imagery. She writes from an elevated perch, but invites you to sit right next to her by not trying too hard to seem intellectual.

Weaknesses:

She doesn’t offer much for those who might not initially enjoy her work or style, but that just means she has more to offer for those who do.

Rating (1-10): 9

Overall Analysis:

White words on a black background. You can’t get more simple than that. Her poetry, however, is quite the opposite, as it’s filled with such uniquely crafted phrases and words. Her intellect and poetic mental capacities truly shine through to produce in the reader a mood that harkens back to days of yore. Ok, maybe not that far back, but she definitely stands out from the modern pack.

Juice

Juice
poetry blog's url: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=93580266
pbr url: click here to view his profile

Strengths:

Poetry blogs aren’t really his thing. No fancy colors, no use of dazzling fonts, and I don’t get the feeling he cares if people read his work or not. But he’s not fooling anyone, ‘cause everyone knows that’s the exact formula to use if you want to be that cool-antihero guy that everyone kinda loves. His poetry is on point, sensitive raunchy, smart, and very well thought-out.

Weaknesses:

He has zero structure to his poetry in terms of stanza breaks or cues that make for a comfortable read. And, although you’re forced by his eloquence and intellect to believe every poem means something more, many of his poems seem to go nowhere at all.

Rating (1-10): 9

Overall Analysis:

Every read is a unique and wonderful read. His writing has many bunny trails that might annoy some readers and he might piss you off with a post or two, but there is no doubt he can write great, descriptive poetry. He’s the anti-conformist people perpetually and ironically try to conform to.

Lance Strate

Lance Strate
poetry blog's url: http://blog.myspace.com/lancestrate
pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=lancestrate

Strengths:

He’s great with experimenting with different brands of poetry, in regards to structure and themes. One can truly tell that he cares about his work and spends much time attempting to perfect his craft. That goes a long way with me and perhaps with many other readers as well, as it’s easy to put time and care into reading something that someone else obviously put time and care into constructing. You can also tell he has some deeply motivating thoughts that he’s trying to get at you and through you throughout each poetic piece.

Weaknesses:

Although, at times, his rhythm is well thought-out, unique, and cadenced, most of the time reading his work is trying to catch which flow he happens to be using for that particular verse or stanza. The color of his blog is a bit atrocious, but maybe it’s just me… and maybe that shouldn’t matter at all.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

All in all, he has a wealth of work that anyone would better themselves by taking a gander at. If you’re a poetry fundamentalist, you might want to avoid his poetry, but for anyone who loves the underlying message and the thought process behind the author, his poetry is a great read. He’s a sophisticated writer whose ideas and creativity far outweigh his poetic talent (which is saying something… because his poetic talent isn’t bad at all).

Mother2rah

Mother2rah
poetry blog's url: http://www.mother2rah.wordpress.com/
pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=Mother2rah

Strengths:

Her poetry’s drenched with passion, in a great way. Extremely eloquent and high on imagery, she uses her passion as her sword. Whether she’s talking about her son, her lover, or a whisper, she gets you on her side then throws you to the other, as you feel as though you have been, will be, and want to be on both sides of her loveful arrangements.

Weaknesses:

Her poetry’s drenched with passion, in a bad way as well. A bit on the sappy side of things, at times. However, I do get the sense that she’s not trying to appeal to anyone but herself, so there’s probably no reason she’d like to reach out to anyone who wasn’t immediately smitten by her style of verse. She hasn’t posted many poems on a variety of subjects, but she’s posted enough to see she has true talent.

Rating (1-10): 9

Overall Analysis:

In her poem “In Sync” she says that “this is a new life. I’m walking around knee deep in distraction, up to my eyes in curiosity; uncertainty.” Well- although we’re not knee-deep in her body of work- I’m certain that my curiosity for what she might write next will never diminish.

Psychosis

Psychosis
poetry blog's url: http://blog.myspace.com/psychosistool
pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=Psychosis

Strengths:

A poet that seems as if he’s constantly on the verge of saying something enormously profound. And even when that doesn’t come into fruition, you’re still not disappointed. You get a true sense that he understands flow and knows how to engage an audience. His vocabulary is great, but not overwhelming. The best part of his blog, however, is what you notice from the start… His dark-themed art is heavily abundant and really sets the mood.

Weaknesses:

Although he seems to understand pace and flow, he doesn’t seem to understand how to manipulate it enough to keep the reader (or at least me) entertained enough. As highly entertaining as his poetry is, I found myself zoning out on a couple of occasions that are only worth mentioning because this poet seems more than capable of ironing out those instances.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

I gave him an 8 because he’s as close to the complete package as you’ll find in the online poetry world. Maybe he’s lacking in many categories, but his lacks are very minor. You would think that a dark poet would get thrown into the cliché, repetitive category very easily, but this poet surprises us with a fairly diverse range of sentimentality, reminiscent of Metallica or, better yet, Pink Floyd.

Lainey

Lainey
poetry blog's url: http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.ListAll&friendID=116295727
pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=Lainey

Strengths:

A ridiculously beautiful site, jazzed up with pictures and such that truly make it “her place”. Extremely willing to experiment with style, subject matter, and form… which obviously appeals to (and might be the reason for) her significant amount of readers. She uses soft language that might cause the average poet sophisticate to cringe, but will cause the average person to adore her. She really allows her great personality to shine through not only her work, but her entire corner of the blogosphere.

Weaknesses:

It seems, at times, she’s just writing for writing’s sake, and has no real meaning or significance in every piece, but that’s too be expected from such an entertaining poet. I’m almost positive the words would sound better coming from her mouth as well. She seems to depend on the reader to understand the intended flow and poetic pauses, as opposed to indicating those with some much needed line breaks. Her poetry was easy enough to find amongst her touches of charming personal notes, short stories, and imagery, but her poetry could definitely benefit from some form of organizational links to her favorites (at the very least).

Rating (1-10): 7

Overall Analysis:

I think she is the essence of online poetry. Interesting, personable, reliable, inspirational, and warm are all words that describe “Lainey’s Place”. A 7, but a very high 7.

Rosemary Nissen-Wade

Rosemary Nissen-Wade
poetry blog's url: http://passionatecrone.blogspot.com/
pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=RosemaryNW

Strengths:

Inspirational, to say the least. Reminiscent of the good ol' Wonder Years sitcom, to say the most. I felt like I was allowed to read her diary that I knew eventually would lead me to the back cover, where I would very cliché-like find my name instead, realizing the whole thing had been about me. The language was clear, and she touched on subjects that could abstractly appeal to most.

Weaknesses:

When I said it was like reading a diary, it felt like I was actually reading a diary at times, instead of a poem. Every so often, the smoothness of the piece was replaced with “what she wanted to say” (a noble pursuit, but didn’t work for me). While she did write about a myriad of situations, the themes weren’t as diverse as they could have been simply because each poem basically led to the same common denominator… Life. As beautifully a thing as that is, I’m not sure it would lend itself to a diverse array of readers.

Rating (1-10): 8

Overall Analysis:

Overall, reading through her poetry was a great experience. I would’ve liked to see a list of her favorite poems that she’s written, but it was nice to settle for a list of her favorite poets as well as lists of her favorite sites, all in an effort to altruistically promote and spread inspiration. She may “only” write about Life, but really… what else is there?

David M Pitchford

David M Pitchford
poetry blog's url: http://fringemonkey.wordpress.com/
pbr url: http://poetryblogrankings.com/members/poet_home.aspx?pun=fringemonkey

Strengths:

The narrative style in his poetry is cerebral, on all accounts. I enjoyed the descriptive nature of his words that flowed together quite nicely. The blog was very user-friendly and was spiced up with great imagery, that truly lends itself to the quality of the work within.

Weaknesses:

The subject matter, though fairly unique from other poetry blogs, was in and of itself quite repetitive. I can't imagine a wide-range of readers enjoying/relating to his work, but for those who do, they will be continually pleased.

Rating (1-10): 7

Overall Analysis:

I gave this poet a 7 due to the lack of diversity he presented, not only in content but in repetitious style. His word-choice was fantastically brilliant (for lack of a "smarter-sounding" set of words), and the mood his blog set was top-notch. Overall, an enjoyable read.
